Burlington, VT -- Ice cream afficionados: get out your spoons! The adventurous flavor team at Ben & Jerry’s has a cool dozen surprises on their 2001 new flavor line-up!

"What’s new? That’s the first question everybody always asks me!” laughs Arnold Carbone, Ben & Jerry’s Director of Research & Development, with the coveted job of designing the company’s new ice cream delights. For Carbone and his team, however, the task isn’t -- well, all sweetness and light! “We get some pretty wild suggestions,” confesses Carbone. “Like, why not blend the ice cream with pickles, or throw in a few anchovies!?’"

Anchovies aside, the taste experts at Ben & Jerry’s are ready to experiment with almost anything to create each year’s line-up of cool confections. “We’re known as cutting-edge ice cream innovators, so we really focus on the design,” Carbone emphasizes. “Lower-end companies can’t duplicate our flavors -- they’re just too complicated and incredibly indulgent.” Yet another reason why Ben & Jerry’s remains in a class by itself: proprietary technology that allows their multi-flavor ice creams to blend yet stay beautifully discrete -- even in a pint container, he says.
